The 2024 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has been a thrilling spectacle, not just for the explosive batting displays, but also for the exceptional bowling performances. With 20 matches already played, bowlers have consistently stepped up, showcasing their skill and strategic brilliance.

In these matches, only two bowlers have been able to pick five or more wickets in their teams’ match. While Multan Sultans currently rule the points table, their bowling attack, along with some other standout performers, deserve a closer look. Peshawar Zalmi also have skilful bowlers. Let’s take a look at bowlers with 5-wicket hauls in PSL 2024 so far:

PSL 2024: Bowlers with 5-Wicket Hauls

1. Usama Mir: The Sultan of Spin (Multan Sultans)

Multan Sultans haven’t just dominated the batting charts; they boast a lethal weapon in their bowling lineup – Usama Mir. The left-arm spinner has become the talk of the tournament for his remarkable spell against Lahore Qalandars, where he picked up an impressive six wickets. This wasn’t a one-off performance either.

Usama has consistently troubled batsmen throughout the season, taking 2/29 against Karachi Kings and 2/36 against Peshawar Zalmi. With 15 wickets from just seven games, he currently leads the wicket-taking charts for Multan Sultans.

While Mir has grabbed headlines with his six-wicket haul, Sultans possess another reliable bowling asset – Mohammad Ali. The right-arm pacer has been a consistent performer for the Sultans, currently holding the title of the leading wicket-taker in the entire tournament. Ali has scalped an impressive 14 wickets from his seven matches, displaying his ability to take crucial wickets throughout the innings.

2. Arif Yaqoob: The Game-Changer (Peshawar Zalmi)

Shifting gears from the Sultans’ dominance, Peshawar Zalmi boast their own bowling hero – Arif Yaqoob. The leg-spinner emerged as a match-winner against Islamabad United, grabbing a phenomenal five-wicket haul for just 27 runs.

This electrifying performance played a pivotal role in securing victory for Zalmi. However, Arif’s performance hasn’t been consistent throughout the season. While he couldn’t take a wicket in the rematch against United, his 3/43 against Multan Sultans showcased his potential to dismantle batting lineups.

These are just a few of the bowlers who have made their mark in PSL 2024. With the tournament progressing, we can expect more bowlers to step up and claim their place among the elite. The battle for most 5-wicket hauls and top wicket-taker title promises to be a thrilling one, with both established stars and emerging talents vying for the spotlight.
