In a significant shake-up for the Quetta Gladiators ahead of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 9), Rilee Rossouw has been appointed as the new captain, replacing the outgoing Sarfaraz Ahmed. The decision came after franchise owner Nadeem Omar confirmed that Sarfaraz had expressed his desire to step down from the leadership role. This move marks the end of an era for Sarfaraz, who led the Gladiators to victory in 2019 and guided them to three finals during his tenure.
Adding to the Gladiators’ roster, the team has welcomed the seasoned Mohammad Amir, who joins them after parting ways with the Karachi Kings. This acquisition is expected to bolster the Gladiators’ bowling attack significantly. However, the team has also seen a departure with young fast bowler Naseem Shah being traded to Islamabad United.
The Gladiators’ squad for PSL 9 features a mix of experienced and emerging talent. Platinum players Rilee Rossouw and Sherfane Rutherford are set to lead the charge alongside Mohammad Amir, Jason Roy, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Mohammad Wasim Jr. The Gold category includes the likes of Mohammad Hasnain, Abrar Ahmed, and the former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed. Notable additions to the Silver and Emerging categories further strengthen the team’s depth.
Quetta Gladiators are gearing up to face Peshawar Zalmi in their opening encounter on February 18th. The excitement surrounding PSL 9 is palpable as the tournament is set to kick off on February 17th, spanning across four cities: Karachi, Multan, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. The opening match will see Lahore Qalandars take on Islamabad United in what promises to be a thrilling start to the cricketing extravaganza.
