After his stint as the head coach of the Indian cricket team, Rahul Dravid has reportedly opted not to extend his tenure and is set to transition to franchise cricket. VVX Laxma is said to be his successor in this role. Dravid is poised to take on the role of mentor for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the upcoming IPL 2024 season, marking a shift from international to franchise cricket.
Although India did not secure any major trophies under Dravid’s coaching, their commendable performance in the World Cup 2023, where they remained unbeaten in the group stage but faced a defeat against Australia in the final, is noteworthy.
Additionally, they reached the World Test Championship 2023 final but succumbed to Australia. Dravid assumed the coaching position in 2021 with a two-year contract, and with the demanding schedule and continuous travel with Team India, he has chosen to prioritize family time.
Lucknow Super Giants had previously pursued Dravid, but his commitment to the Indian team had prevented the move. With the departure of Gautam Gambhir, the former mentor, who shifted to the Kolkata Knight Riders, Dravid is now set to fill the void.
The coaching staff at LSG has undergone further changes, bidding farewell to head coach Andy Flower, who is succeeded by Justin Langer. As Dravid embarks on this new chapter with LSG, cricket enthusiasts await the impact of his mentorship on the franchise in the upcoming IPL season.
