Over 10,000 tickets were sold at Headingley Cricket Ground during the third T20I between Pakistan and England, setting a new record for women’s cricket match attendance at the venue. This landmark event highlights the growing popularity of women’s cricket.
Yorkshire County Cricket Club’s CEO, Stephen Vaughan, expressed his delight over the record-breaking number of spectators. He described the atmosphere as “awesome,” with a diverse crowd of families and children, creating a fantastic environment. Vaughan emphasized the club’s pride in supporting the growth of women’s cricket, particularly in Yorkshire, which boasts the highest participation of women and girls in the sport nationwide.
In conjunction with the match, Yorkshire organized a celebration event and a Women and Girls’ Cricket Conference, featuring former cricketers. Some former England players stayed to watch England clinch the series win against Pakistan. Despite Pakistani bowlers managing to control the English batters, England Women comfortably won the match by 34 runs, securing a series whitewash against Pakistan.
Vaughan extended congratulations to England’s women’s cricket team for their strong performance. The Pakistani women’s team faced defeat in the first T20I of the series on May 11, losing by 53 runs. The second match, played on May 17, also saw England emerge victorious, winning by 65 runs.
