Rinku Singh, the Kolkata Knight Riders batter, has enjoyed a rapid ascent through his exceptional performances in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. One of the highlights of his tournament so far was when he smashed five consecutive sixes in the final over to secure a win for Kolkata against Gujarat Titans.
But it is not just his cricketing prowess that has captured attention. Rinku Singh has also made headlines for his off-field contribution to the sport. The 25-year-old has decided to construct a sports hostel for underprivileged cricketers in Aligarh. Having experienced the struggles of growing up as an underprivileged cricketer himself, he is determined to ensure that others do not have to face the same challenges.
The hostel is being built at the Aligarh Cricket School and Academy, a sprawling facility spanning 15 acres of land. Rinku aims to inaugurate the facility in May 2023, once he returns from the IPL.
Masooduz-Zafar Amini, Rinku’s childhood coach from Aligarh, spoke about the batter’s long-standing desire to build a hostel for young players. “He always wanted to build a hostel for young players who do not have financial resources to pursue their dreams. As he is now financially secure, he has decided to make it a reality,” Amini said.
The hostel will provide accommodation and meals for around a dozen trainees, who currently pay exorbitant rents. The facility will eliminate the need for them to spend time and money on travel as well. Amini added that the construction work was almost complete and that Rinku would inaugurate the facility upon his return from the IPL.
With Rinku Singh’s vision and dedication to cricket, the hostel promises to make a significant difference in the lives of young cricketers who would otherwise have limited opportunities to pursue their dreams.
