Sanjog Gupta Appointed ICC CEO, Poised to Lead Cricket Into a Bold New Era
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially named Sanjog Gupta as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. A trailblazer in global media, sports innovation, and consumer engagement, Gupta steps into the role at a time of unprecedented momentum for cricket — both on and off the field.
Gupta becomes the seventh CEO in ICC history, bringing with him over 20 years of experience at the forefront of sports and media. His latest role as CEO – Sports & Live Experiences at JioStar showcased his visionary leadership, building scalable franchises and pioneering digital-first sports engagement in India and globally.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah described Gupta’s appointment as a “milestone moment” for the game, highlighting his deep industry insights and fan-focused approach. “Sanjog’s proven expertise in commercial strategy and technology-driven storytelling makes him the ideal leader as we aim to take cricket to new frontiers — including Olympic recognition and expansion into emerging markets,” Shah noted.
Gupta’s selection follows a global recruitment process that drew over 2,500 applicants from 25 countries. After rigorous screening by the ICC’s HR & Remuneration Committee, a 12-person shortlist was presented to a high-powered Nominations Committee comprising senior cricket board executives from India, Sri Lanka, England, and the global council.
The committee’s unanimous endorsement of Gupta was swiftly ratified by the ICC Board, underscoring a rare alignment across cricket’s global leadership.
Sanjog Gupta, the incoming CEO, expressed his excitement about the opportunity:
“To lead cricket at such a pivotal time — with nearly 2 billion fans, Olympic inclusion on the horizon, and evolving digital opportunities — is both humbling and energizing. I’m committed to working closely with Member Boards to elevate cricket’s global stature and enhance the fan experience.”
Known as a key architect behind the growth of IPL, ICC events, and India’s domestic leagues like ISL and PKL, Gupta’s media strategy has consistently fused technological innovation with storytelling. He has championed multi-language coverage, women’s cricket visibility, and OTT-first broadcasting formats — all of which are expected to play a central role in cricket’s future narrative.
As cricket prepares for its Olympic debut at Los Angeles 2028, Gupta’s appointment signals the ICC’s readiness to embrace change, drive digital transformation, and deepen cricket’s global roots.
With a reputation for reimagining how fans experience sport, Sanjog Gupta’s era at the ICC could well be the game-changer global cricket has long awaited.
