In what could be one of the most talked-about moves of the next IPL season, Sanju Samson’s transfer to CSK discussions are beginning to gain serious traction. According to a report by Cricbuzz, the Chennai Super Kings have expressed interest in acquiring Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju during the IPL 2026 trade window. This revelation has added weight to what many initially dismissed as just another round of social media speculation.
Sanju, who has captained RR with poise and consistency, might be considering a base shift following IPL 2025. Though no formal talks between CSK and RR have taken place yet, insiders suggest that the Yellow Army is seriously eyeing the Indian wicketkeeper-batter.
Samson’s Transfer to CSK Possible or Will Other Franchises Get the Deal?
CSK aren’t alone in the race. Several other franchises are reportedly exploring the possibility of bringing Samson into their squads. A CSK official confirmed the team’s intent, stating, “We are definitely looking at Sanju. He is an Indian batter, a keeper, and an opener, exactly the kind of player every team wants. If he’s available, we will certainly consider him.”
While the franchise hasn’t finalized who they might trade in exchange, the idea of a Samson’s transfer to CSK is far from fantasy at this stage. Whether it turns into an all-cash trade or a player swap remains to be seen. It’s worth recalling that CSK and RR previously completed a similar trade when Robin Uthappa joined Chennai ahead of IPL 2021.
The bigger question now is how this potential move aligns with CSK’s long-term plans, especially with Stephen Fleming previously indicating that Ruturaj Gaikwad is being groomed as MS Dhoni’s captaincy successor. Budget-wise, Samson may be a like-for-like fit, but would the Royals demand a high-profile player or future draft picks in return?
