Ex-Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi who was named interim chief selector for Pakistan vs New Zealand 2022-23 series, has announced news, not so good for the T20I cricketers. He, who was brought into action by the newly-elected chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mr Najam Sethi, has revealed that those players whose strike rates are below 135 in domestic cricket will not be considered for the shortest format of cricket.
Seeking the fact that T20 is the format which requires action from the batters to score plenty of runs within limited numbers of overs given, Afridi took to his Twitter to announce the development. As reported by a credible journalist, he revealed,
“No batter in T20 will be selected for Pakistan who will not have a strike rate of more than 135 in domestic cricket.”
While this development is adored by many, others do not cherish this step. The reason for standing beside Afridi in this development is that players will good strike rates will fulfil the objective of T20 cricket. And, it will continue to discard those, with the batting abilities a perfect match for ODIs and Test cricket.
Afridi’s recent announcements as an interim chief selector have been including a long list of players for probable for the ODI series versus New Zealand. It also includes Sharjeel Khan and Haris Sohail, and a couple of other unexpected players. It should be noted that the finalized squad is yet to be revealed.
