Shubman Gill and Sophia Dunkley Named ICC Players of the Month for July 2025

Shubman Gill ICC award

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced India captain Shubman Gill and England batter Sophia Dunkley as the Men’s and Women’s Players of the Month for July 2025, recognising their standout performances on the international stage.

Gill made history by becoming the first male cricketer to win the award four times, following an extraordinary Test series against England. Across three Tests in July, he amassed 567 runs at an average of 94.50, cementing his status as one of the game’s most consistent performers. His previous wins came in January 2023, September 2023, and February 2025.

A defining moment came during the second Test in Birmingham, where Gill produced an aggregate of 430 runs, the second-highest match tally in Test history, with scores of 269 and 161. He also struck a crucial 103 in Manchester, ensuring the series stayed alive. Gill claimed the award ahead of England’s Ben Stokes and South Africa’s Wiaan Mulder.

“It feels great to win this in my first Test series as captain,” Gill said. “The double ton in Birmingham will be a career highlight. I’m grateful to my teammates and the jury for this recognition.”

On the women’s side, Dunkley emerged victorious over England team-mate Sophie Ecclestone and Ireland captain Gaby Lewis. She shone in both ODIs and T20Is at home against India, scoring 126 runs in three ODIs and 144 runs at a 134.57 strike rate in four T20Is. Her standout effort was a 92-ball 83 in Southampton.

“I’m delighted to win this award after such a hard-fought series,” Dunkley said. “It was a great contest and a valuable step towards the Women’s World Cup.”

The ICC Player of the Month awards are decided through a combination of votes from a specialist panel and fans registered on icc-cricket.com, allowing global supporters to have their say every month.
