India defeat Zimbabwe in fourth t20I by a decent margin to clinch the series 4-1. Remember that India were playing with a young and amended squad without much experience.

In the fifth and final T20I of the series at Harare, India clinched a comprehensive victory over Zimbabwe by 42 runs, thus sealing the series 4-1. Batting first, India posted a competitive total of 167/6 in their allotted 20 overs, driven by a solid middle-order performance from Sanju Samson and an explosive cameo from Shivam Dube.

India’s innings started shakily as Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed by Sikandar Raza for a quickfire 12 off 5 balls in the first over. Captain Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma attempted to stabilize the innings but were dismissed cheaply, leaving India at a precarious 38/3 at the end of the fifth over. Sanju Samson then took charge, anchoring the innings with a measured 58 off 45 balls, including a solitary four and four sixes. Riyan Parag supported Samson with a patient 22 off 24 balls, building a crucial partnership.

India defeat Zimbabwe despite Blessing’s bowling spell

The momentum swung in India’s favor significantly when Shivam Dube unleashed a flurry of boundaries towards the end, scoring 26 off just 12 balls with two fours and two sixes. Contributions from different players helped India reach a respectable total of 167. Zimbabwe’s Blessing Muzarabani was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 2/19 in his four overs, while Sikandar Raza, Richard Ngarava, and Brandon Mavuta each took a wicket.

Chasing 168, Zimbabwe’s innings faltered from the outset. Mukesh Kumar struck early, removing Wessly Madhevere for a duck in the first over. Brian Bennett (10) and Tadiwanashe Marumani (27) tried to build a partnership but fell to Mukesh and Washington Sundar, respectively. Dion Myers provided some resistance with a 34-run knock, but the rest of the batting lineup failed to contribute significantly.

Mukesh Kumar was the standout performer with the ball, taking 4/22 in 3.3 overs, including the crucial wickets of Bennett and Marumani. Shivam Dube chipped in with 2/25, while Washington Sundar and Abhishek Sharma took a wicket each, contributing to Zimbabwe’s collapse. Faraz Akram’s brisk 27 off 13 balls provided a glimmer of hope, but it was too little too late as Zimbabwe were bowled out for 125 in 18.3 overs.

India’s comprehensive all-round performance, highlighted by Sanju Samson’s batting and Mukesh Kumar’s superb bowling, ensured a comfortable win and a dominant series victory. The visitors showcased their depth and resilience throughout the series, leaving Zimbabwe with plenty to ponder as they look to rebuild and regroup for future challenges.
