Kiwi commentator Simon Doull has denied media reports that he had a bad experience in Pakistan during PSL 8 after criticizing Babar Azam. Earlier this year, Doull criticized Azam for prioritizing his personal milestones over the team’s goal during his maiden PSL century. He suggested that Azam should have focused on scoring boundaries instead of slowing down the run-rate.
Indian media outlets quoted Doull as saying that living in Pakistan was like living in jail and that he was not allowed to go out because Babar Azam fans were waiting for him. The reports also suggested that Doull stayed without food for many days and was mentally tortured. However, Doull denied making any such statement and said that he enjoyed his time in Pakistan.
“I absolutely loved my time in Pakistan, and the people were fantastic. I was never stopped from going anywhere, and I had no problem with the fans. I had a great time,” Doull said.
Apart from his comments on Babar Azam, Doull also expressed his disapproval of Virat Kohli’s slowing down during an IPL match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants. Doull suggested that Kohli’s deceleration was due to his focus on achieving a milestone rather than trying to score runs quickly. He emphasized that there is no room for being concerned about personal milestones in the game and that players should keep going, especially with wickets in hand.
“You should not be concerned about milestones. You should keep going, especially when you have wickets in hand. You need to focus on scoring runs and helping the team win,” Doull added.
