Barbados Royals won a thrilling final over chase against Amazon Warriors to kick off the 2023 Massy Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL).

Sophie Devine scored a record-breaking 103 not out from 64 balls for the Warriors, but the Royals chased down their target with two balls to spare thanks to an excellent innings from Erin Burns and Chinelle Henry.

The Royals were facing an uphill battle after losing Hayley Matthews for 23 in the powerplay, but Gaby Lewis and Laura Harris put on a crucial partnership of 53 runs for the third wicket.

Harris then took the game away from the Warriors with a blistering 30 from just 12 balls, before Burns hit the winning runs in the final over.

It was a thrilling start to the WCPL, and the Royals will be hoping to build on this momentum in their upcoming matches.
