England cricketer Sophie Ecclestone has been ruled out of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2023 after dislocating her right shoulder.
Ecclestone, who plays for Manchester Originals in the Hundred, was injured ahead of her side’s match against Southern Brave on Thursday. She was taken to hospital for treatment and will now undergo surgery.
The 23-year-old is one of the world’s leading bowlers, and her absence will be a major blow to Manchester Originals and England. She is expected to be out of action for several months.
Ecclestone is the third England player to be ruled out of the WBBL this season, following Katherine Brunt and Anya Shrubsole.
The WBBL is due to start on October 16, with Sydney Sixers facing Melbourne Stars in their opening match.
