The Hundred, England’s innovative cricket competition, is gearing up for its upcoming season with a star-studded lineup. Among the 890 players from 22 countries registered for the drafts, some prominent names have emerged, promising an electrifying tournament ahead.
Leading the pack are renowned players like New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, India’s Smriti Mandhana, Australia’s Meg Lanning, and David Warner, alongside West Indies’ Kieron Pollard. The anticipation is high as these cricketing icons prepare to showcase their skills on the Hundred stage.
In a bid to maintain continuity and strategy, the eight men’s teams had the opportunity to retain 10 players each, while the women’s teams could hold onto 8. Retention day saw 137 players secured, leaving 75 slots up for grabs on draft day.
Adding to the excitement, an extra 16 players, two per squad, will join via the Wildcard Draft just before the commencement of the competition, adding further depth and unpredictability to the teams.
The draft order has been set, with Birmingham Phoenix having the prestigious first pick in the women’s competition, and Northern Superchargers holding the honor in the men’s.
England’s cricketing stars are also well-represented in the lineup, with players like Dawid Malan, Amy Jones, Ollie Pope, Lauren Filer, and Jason Roy poised to make an impact.
The international flavor of the tournament is undeniable, with top foreign players including India’s Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, and Richa Ghosh, as well as New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell, Suzie Bates, Tim Southee, and Rachin Ravindra.
Australia’s Ashleigh Gardner, Tim David, Matthew Wade, Beth Mooney, and Annabel Sutherland; Pakistan’s Shadab Khan and Fatima Sana; West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran, Deandra Dottin, and Shamar Joseph; Ireland’s Orla Prendergast and Paul Stirling are also set to light up the competition.
With talents from Sri Lanka, South Africa, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh also in the mix, The Hundred promises to be a truly global spectacle, showcasing the best of cricketing talent from around the world.
