Star Australian cricketer Steve Smith has expressed his eagerness to join the Pakistan Super League (PSL). In a recent Q&A session on Instagram, Smith revealed that he would love to play in the PSL, calling it a “really great tournament.” This comes after fellow Australian opener David Warner also expressed his desire to play in the PSL.

Smith has played 240 T20 matches in his career, scoring 5150 runs at a strike-rate of 127.60. The last edition of the PSL was won by Lahore Qalandars, who became the first team to win back-to-back titles. The popularity of the tournament has prompted the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee Chairman Najam Sethi to consider increasing the number of teams from six to ten.

Sethi has stated that there is immense pressure to expand the tournament and that there is high demand for two additional teams. He believes that the inclusion of two more teams will not cause any loss to the franchises and that the PCB will take responsibility if necessary. Sethi believes that even if there were 10 teams now, all of them would be sold due to the high demand.

It is worth noting that the PSL was initially a five-franchise tournament, but Multan Sultans joined later, following an announcement by the then-chairman Najam Sethi. Smith’s desire to play in the PSL highlights the growing popularity of the tournament among international players.
