Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has made a significant announcement regarding their squad for the ongoing IPL 2024 season, revealing the replacement for Wanindu Hasaranga. Leg-spinner Vijayakanth Viyaskanth has been named as Hasaranga’s replacement on Tuesday.
Hasaranga, who was initially slated to miss a few games due to chronic heel pain in his left foot, has now been ruled out for the remainder of the season. Wanindu Hasaranga’s stint with SRH began with high hopes as he was bought for INR 1.5 crore, joining the team at his base price of INR 50 lakh.
However, his anticipated debut for SRH has been thwarted by the persistent heel injury. Hasaranga, who previously played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2022, showcased his prowess by bagging 26 wickets. However, his participation was limited in the 2023 season, featuring in only eight games.
In light of Hasaranga’s unfortunate setback, SRH has turned to Vijayakanth Viyaskanth to fill the void. Viyaskanth’s inclusion brings depth and variety to the SRH bowling attack. The leg-spinner will be eager to make an impact and contribute to SRH’s campaign in the IPL.
