Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav recently revealed how he leads his team. In a cheeky conversation, Suryakumar Yadav was already conscious about making those stump microphone moments, which were quite prominent in his predecessor Rohit Sharma, a thing of the past. Suryakumar, who took over the captaincy after Rohit Sharma quit T20Is after India’s successful campaign in the World Cup 2024, has been leading the team efficiently as it transitions into another era with the retirement of Virat Kohli.
Suryakumar Yadav says ‘Try Karta Hun Stump Microphone Se Dur Rahun’
The stumping of the stump is something Suryakumar just consciously tries to keep himself away from so that only Rohit has these on-field antics and none else. “I try to stay away from the stumps. If it’s someone’s specialty, it’s better that it remains with them,” he quipped during a Star Sports interview while referring humorously to Rohit’s quirky stump mic commentary that many fans have grown to love.
He even joked about the memorable lines Rohit had quoted, saying, “When we roam in the garden, those iconic moments come to mind automatically.” Suryakumar pointed out that he actually likes to keep players free and not micromanage them at all, stating, “I don’t stop anyone because no one roams around unnecessarily.“
Under Suryakumar’s captaincy, India has seen a blend of promising youngsters and seasoned players come together seamlessly. The rising stars such as Tilak Varma and Nitish Kumar Reddy have been flourishing alongside experienced players such as Sanju Samson, Hardik Pandya, and Rinku Singh. This combination has injected a fresh wave of energy into the squad.
Reflecting on his role, Suryakumar expressed that while his responsibilities have grown, the essence of his game remains unchanged. “Both roles are fun. It’s just an added responsibility. I’m doing the same thing as before; it’s just something extra in the bracket now. The fun is still there,” he said, signaling his enjoyment of leading the team.
With his relaxed leadership style and ability to manage a young yet dynamic squad, Suryakumar Yadav is proving to be an inspiring figure in Indian cricket.
