Cricket is more than a game, it has always been an emotion shared by Pakistan. Despite, drowning in an economic crisis, divided by the economical, political, and religious crises, ‘Cricket’ is an emotion that bounds the nation apart from existing social differences.
Pakistan has experienced another heartbreak today November 13th at the Melbourne Cricket Ground as England has been crowned the new champions of the T20 World Cup. Ben Stokes and Sam Curran starred as England beat Pakistan to win the Twenty20 World Cup on Sunday. Every Pakistani cricket fan is now pondering the question, “How could we have won?” Pakistan suffered a major blow towards the end of the run-chase as star pacer Shaheen Afridi walked off the field due to a knee injury. The lanky pacer could only bowl 2.1 overs during the innings. The scorecard could have been different if he hadn’t gone off the field.
But this is not the first time that Pakistan has come so close and ended up losing it.
Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2021:
Just like in T20 World Cup 2021, Pakistan was so close to entering the finals and yet so far as they lost to Australia. This loss broke Pakistani cricket fans that they were so close to winning the game. Pakistan won all of its five group matches to top Group 2 in the T20 World Cup 2021. Whereas, Australia won four out of their five matches to qualify for the semi-final. Pakistan was the only unbeaten team in the group stage and they ended up being beaten by Australia by five wickets to reach the final against New Zealand in Dubai.
If we think, we have not lost the game. Every Pakistani would feel that they haven’t lost and they are ‘Emotionally Victorious’ in the T20 World Cup 2022. It’s a proud moment not for just Pakistan Cricket Team but also the Pakistani fans. We made so many mistakes but it is our efforts that lead us to this moment. These efforts would also lead to attaining ‘Practical victory’ in the years to come. We have come so far from when we used to get out of the tournaments before even reaching the semi-finals and finals. All we need is to believe in ourselves and give confidence to our players.
