Afghanistan skipper Rashid Khan has received penalty and demerit point for his alleged misconduct during the T20 World Cup match against Bangladesh. The all-rounder threw his bat to the ground in frustration after teammate Karim Janat refused a second run as his side batted during the final over of their innings.
This is the first offence for Rashid Khan in a 24-month period. He was adjudged to have violated Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct, breaching Article 2.9, which pertains to ‘throwing a ball or any other cricket equipment at or near a player, team official or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match’.

The charge against Rashid was laid by on-field umpires Nitin Menon and Langton Rusere, third umpire Adrian Holdstock, and fourth official Ahsan Raza. He admitted the offence and accepted the proposed sanction from match referee Richie Richardson, so no formal hearing was required.
This incident clearly captures the high emotional moments that characterize competitive international matches. In this regard, the behaviour of Rashid Khan provides a very serious reminder of how players, especially captains and leaders, should never lose their cool on any pitch.
