Australia won their maiden T20 World Cup title today (Sunday) as they defeated New Zealand in the final. Neither Australia nor New Zealand has ever won the T20 tournament before. But this time Australia lifted the trophy after beating New Zealand by eight wickets.
Australia won the toss and decided to field first. New Zealand displayed an impressive start but they lost their first wicket at 28 runs. New Zealand’s skipper, Kane Williamson, completed his half-century as the team scored a total of 108 runs in 14 overs. Williamson’s masterful knock of 85 came to an end. New Zealand scored a total of 172 runs.
While chasing down the target of 173, Australia scored 39 runs at the loss of one wicket in the fourth over. Marsh’s knock-off 50 balls and Maxwell’s knock lead their team to glory as both hit two fours in Southee’s final over.
