In the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers, Bangladesh successfully defended a modest target of 121 runs to win the tournament without a loss on Sunday at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, defeating Ireland by seven runs.
With an unbeaten 28 off 24 balls, Irish all-rounder Arlene Kelly gave Bangladesh the chance to win the match, but Nigar Sultana’s team maintained composure and eventually held Ireland to 113 for 9 in 20 overs.
Bangladesh got off to a fast start while defending a low total with two early wickets from spinners Sanjida Akter and Nahida Akter.
Eimear Richardson (18 off 15) and skipper Laura Delany (12 off 22) fell to Rumana as Ireland was in trouble at 58-7 in 12.3 overs.
Rumana’s final statistics were 3-24 in four overs.
Rumana produced a 20-ball 21-run knock while Fargana Hoque earlier got her third WT20I fifty to help Bangladesh record a modest total of 120-8 in 20 overs.
