The excitement of the IPL playoffs is heating up, but some key players will be notably absent. England’s stars, including Jos Buttler, Phil Salt, and Sam Curran, are set to miss the IPL playoffs due to their commitment to the T20 World Cup.
Fit-again pacer Jofra Archer and rising talent Tom Hartley have made it to England’s preliminary T20 World Cup squad, signaling their importance to the team. England recently secured their second T20 World Cup title, defeating India and Pakistan in the semis and final, respectively.
The England Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed that players participating in the IPL will return in time for England’s T20 series against Pakistan starting on May 22. This means English players will be absent during the IPL playoffs, affecting teams like Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, and Punjab Kings.
“Selected players, currently playing in the Indian Premier League, will return in time for the series against Pakistan, which gets underway at Headingley on Wednesday 22 May 2024.”
Players like Phil Salt and Jos Buttler have been instrumental for their IPL teams, contributing significantly to their success. The absence of England’s key players could tip the scales in favor of teams like Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, who rely heavily on their English contingent.
