UAE player Usman Khan emerged as a cricketing sensation during the recently concluded Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 while representing Multan Sultans. His outstanding performances, including two centuries, not only dazzled spectators but also caught the attention of cricketing authorities.
Although holding a Pakistani passport, Usman had relocated to the UAE a few years ago in pursuit of better opportunities. However, his remarkable stint in PSL 2024 prompted him to reconsider his international allegiance. Following legal discussions with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Usman penned a letter to the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) requesting the termination of his contract, thus making himself eligible to represent Pakistan.
Despite being awarded a retainer contract by the ECB and being poised to represent the UAE on the international stage, Usman’s decision to prioritize his home country reflects his strong commitment to Pakistan cricket. He has been named in the 29-player lineup for the Kakul Camp ahead of the upcoming New Zealand T20I series, with reliable reports suggesting his inclusion in the national squad for both the series and the T20 World Cup 2024.
Will UAE player Usman Khan play cricket in UAE anymore?
However, Usman’s decision to terminate his contract with the ECB comes with potential repercussions, as he may lose the opportunity to participate in cricketing events in the UAE in the future. Previously, he had represented Gulf Giants as a local player in the ILT20 2023 and had played in PSL 2024 as a foreign player after obtaining a No-Objection Certificate from the ECB.
Throughout this process, Usman maintained close communication with the PCB, and with the assistance of a senior Multan official, he formally submitted his termination request to the ECB. As Usman embarks on this significant transition in his cricketing career, the cricketing world eagerly awaits to see how this decision will shape his future endeavors on the field.
