As the curtains fall on the 2024 edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League, it is time to discuss the performances of the worst and best teams in the tournament. This has been a season full of enthralling matches, some great performances, and a few disappointments. While some teams have an enthralling journey, others failed to prove their mettle.

In this blog, we will take a look at the worst and best teams of the TNPL 2024, Lyca Kovai Kings and SKM Salem Spartans. These teams are rated at the top and bottom of the table respectively.

Who Were the Worst and Best Teams of TNPL 2024?

Best Team: Lyca Kovai Kings

  • Points Table Position: 1st
  • Matches Played: 7
  • Wins: 6
  • Losses: 1
  • Points: 12
  • Net Run Rate (NRR): 0.728

The Lyca Kovai Kings were the most dominant team in TNPL 2024. They won six out of seven matches and finished at the top of the points table. Well-built team performances and solid individual efforts supported each other throughout the tournament. The Kings are now all set to face the Dindigul Dragons in the TNPL 2024 final.

Key Matches:

Good start: The first match saw Kovai Kings open their account with an easy 13-run win over Chepauk Super Gillies, defending 141/7.

Close Finish: One of their most thrilling victories came against IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans, where they won by just one run, defending 160/7.

Big Wins: They also had a commanding 43-run win over Siechem Madurai Panthers and an eight-wicket win against Trichy Grand Cholas, chasing down 125 in 16.1 overs.

Star Performers:

Shahrukh Khan: He was an all-rounder with the bat and ball, and he contributed much towards their victory. Khan was also the third-leading wicket-taker of the season with 12 wickets before the final.

What made the Lyca Kovai Kings the best team in TNPL 2024 was their ability to perform under pressure coupled with their all-round strength.

Worst Team: SKM Salem Spartans

  • Points Table Position: 8th
  • Matches Played: 7
  • Wins: 1
  • Losses: 6
  • Points: 2
  • Net Run Rate (NRR): -0.858

In sharp contrast to the Kings, SKM Salem Spartans had an appalling season, ending at the bottom of the points table. The Spartans had only one win out of the seven matches, struggling for form and momentum throughout the tournament.

Key Matches:

Lone Victory: The only win that came was against Dindigul Dragons, where they chased down 150 with 11 balls remaining, winning by seven wickets.

Heavy defeats: Heavy losses, like the 51 runs at the hands of the IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans and the 35-run defeat against the Trichy Grand Cholas, have marked the Spartans’ campaigns.

Challenges:

Inconsistent Performance: The Spartans did not click as a unit; their batting or bowling department failed to deliver consistently.

Lack of Big Performances: The Spartans could not quite get standout individual performances like the top teams that would turn the tide in their favour. The struggles proved a bit too much for the SKM Salem Spartans, and hence, they turned out to be the worst-performing team in TNPL 2024.
