English cricketer Reece Topley is set to play for the Durban Super Giants in the inaugural edition of the SA20, an event that will provide him with the opportunity to fine-tune his skills ahead of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL).

Topley, who has played 22 T20Is for his national side and taken 22 wickets, was recently acquired by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2023 IPL Player Auction. He will be joined by fellow international players such as Quinton de Kock, Jason Holder, Akila Dananjaya, and Keshav Maharaj in the Durban Super Giants squad.

Topley spoke about his excitement to return to action after an injury sustained during the World Cup, saying,

“Obviously having not played for a long time since literally just before the start of the World Cup. Naturally, it’s going to be a bit of a progression, it’s going to be small steps, but at least, you know, I’ll be playing.

I will be looking to fine tune in skills during this opportunity over the next two months or so. Not just this competition obviously. But obviously, you want to get ready to hit the ground running when you touch down in India.”

The SA20 is set to begin on January 10, with the MI Cape Town, led by Rashid Khan, facing off against the Paarl Royals, headed by David Miller. The match will be broadcast live on JioCinema, Sports18 – 1 SD & HD, and Colors Tamil. The Durban Super Giants, including Topley, will play their first match against the Joburg Super Kings on January 11, also broadcast on the aforementioned channels.

Irish cricketer Josh Little, who was impressive in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup last year with 11 wickets in seven matches, will be a part of the Pretoria Capitals team. They will begin their campaign against the Sunrisers Eastern Cape on January 12.

Little expressed his excitement for the SA20, saying,

“It’s been a nice year but I am looking forward to a new tournament, so I am looking for a new opportunity for everyone to go out and showcase their skills.”
