The Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) continued their superb run at home with another commanding display, defeating the Guyana Amazon Warriors by six wickets in the 17th match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Tarouba.
This victory, secured with 16 balls to spare, was TKR’s second in as many days and cemented their position at the top of the CPL standings.
Hosein Sets the Tone
The Player of the Match was left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein, who returned 3/27 to halt the Warriors’ scoring momentum. Hosein struck key blows through the middle overs, removing dangerous batters and limiting Guyana to 163/9 on a batting-friendly pitch.
Terrance Hinds (2/35) and the supporting seamers ensured Guyana never accelerated despite starts from Shai Hope and Quentin Sampson.
Hope’s Unlucky Dismissal
Shai Hope appeared set for a big score before disaster struck. On 39, the elegant right-hander attempted a reverse ramp against Hinds but lost balance and dislodged his own bails — dismissed hit wicket in bizarre fashion. His dismissal summed up the Warriors’ frustrations as they failed to fully capitalize on the conditions.
Hales and Munro Dismantle the Chase
In reply, TKR made light work of the chase. Alex Hales (74 off 43) and Colin Munro (52 off 30) powered to a massive 116-run opening stand, which all but sealed the contest.
Hales’ innings was brutal yet calculated, featuring seven sixes and three fours, while Munro continued his sparkling form this season.
Tahir’s Lone Resistance
Veteran spinner Imran Tahir tried to turn the tide, claiming all four TKR wickets with figures of 4/27. He dismissed both openers as well as Nicholas Pooran and Keacy Carty in a late burst, but by then the Knight Riders were firmly in control.
Pollard and Russell Finish the Job
As expected, the finishing touches came from the powerhouse duo of Kieron Pollard and Andre Russell, who ensured there were no late jitters. Their composure underlined the depth and confidence in TKR’s lineup.
With three wins in three home matches this season, Trinbago have turned Tarouba into a fortress once again. Guyana, meanwhile, were left with just four points from four games and plenty to consider as the tournament nears its halfway stage.
