At M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers went head-to-head in the Indian Premier League. Mumbai was put in to bat first, but their openers, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, struggled to settle against the RCB bowlers, who dominated their opponents. In the third over of the innings, Mohammed Siraj bowled a bouncer that resulted in Kishan being caught by Harshal Patel while attempting a hook shot.
Despite receiving a reprieve when a ball edged off his blade was dropped by wicketkeeper-pacer duo Dinesh Karthik and Siraj after colliding, Rohit remained uncomfortable at the crease. His stay was brief as he was dismissed by Akash Deep’s delivery just three deliveries later. Rohit tried to drive the ball outside the off stump, away from his body, but he only managed to edge it behind the stumps. This time, Karthik made no mistake and caught him out.
After losing a couple of early wickets, Mumbai’s batting line-up continued to crumble, adding just 20 runs for the loss of three wickets. However, the young Tilak Varma, along with debutant Nehal Wadhera, managed to stabilize the innings and put on a crucial partnership of 50 runs. Varma’s impressive knock of 84 runs helped Mumbai post a total of 171 runs.
In contrast, team skipper Rohit Sharma had an underwhelming performance, failing to reach double digits and scoring at a strike rate of just 10. Fans expressed their disappointment on social media, with some even calling for Sharma to retire from cricket due to his poor form. In fact, Sharma has not scored fifty or more runs in 22 consecutive IPL innings, with his last fifty coming in the 2021 edition of the tournament.
Twitter was abuzz with reactions to Rohit Sharma’s knock. Many fans expressed their disappointment with the skipper’s performance and commented on his fitness. Some even advised him to retire from cricket, given his poor run of form in the league.
