Zimbabwe Cricket has taken swift action by suspending international cricketers Wesley Madhevere and Brandon Mavuta following alleged breaches of anti-doping rules. The suspension, effective immediately, bars both players from participating in any cricketing activities until a hearing is conducted to address the charges.

The suspension stems from positive tests for a banned recreational drug, detected during an in-house doping test conducted recently. The charges against Madhevere and Mavuta are in accordance with the ZC Code of Conduct for players and team officials, with the banned substance being the primary reason behind their immediate suspension.

Wesley Madhevere, a seasoned cricketer with nearly 100 matches for Zimbabwe, was notably absent from the recently concluded ODI series against Ireland. Meanwhile, Brandon Mavuta, who has represented Zimbabwe in 26 games across formats, played his latest match against Ireland on December 17.

The immediate suspension serves as a preventive measure, restricting the two players from engaging in any cricket activities until the charges are addressed in the impending hearing. Zimbabwe Cricket has issued an official statement confirming the suspension and the reasons behind it, emphasizing the potential consequences for the alleged breach of anti-doping rules.

The charges against Madhevere and Mavuta are linked to an out-of-competition case identified during the recent in-house doping test. This development disrupts the participation of both cricketers in ongoing and upcoming cricket events, highlighting the gravity of the situation for Zimbabwe Cricket and the players involved.
