In a thrilling Under-19 Asia Cup semi-final clash, UAE secured a remarkable 11-run victory over Pakistan, earning them a coveted spot in the final against Bangladesh. The hero of the match was undoubtedly UAE’s captain, Aayan Afzal Khan, who played a pivotal role in setting a competitive total with his exceptional knock of 55 runs off 57 balls.
UAE’s triumph was a result of a collective effort, particularly in their strong bowling performance. Pacers Obaid Rehman and Hardik Pai led the charge, each claiming two wickets. However, the standout bowler for UAE was Ayman Ahamed, whose defining contributions, including two crucial wickets towards the end, sealed the victory for his team.
Pakistan faced a challenging target of 194 in the low-scoring encounter. Captain Saad Baig and Azan Awais provided a glimmer of hope with their 83-run partnership. However, a breakthrough by Ammar Badami, breaking the partnership, triggered a collapse. Harshit Pai’s impactful dismissal of Riaz Ullah and two run-outs, including the well-set Azan Awais, added to Pakistan’s struggles, leaving them at 121 for 7.
UAE’s disciplined bowling throughout the innings, led by outstanding performances from Ayman Ahamed and the pacers, maintained constant pressure on Pakistan, restricting their chances of recovery.
UAE’s batting faced challenges against Pakistan’s consistent bowling attack, with opener Aryansh Sharma contributing a hard-fought 46 runs. Aayan Afzal Khan and Ethan D’Souza then stabilized the innings after the early wickets, guiding UAE to a total that ultimately proved defendable.
With this impressive victory, UAE are now set to face Bangladesh in the final, promising an intense showdown for the Under-19 Asia Cup title.
