Pakistan’s talented international bowler, Usama Mir, will extend his stay with Worcestershire Rapids for the remainder of the T20 Vitality Blast campaign. Mir, initially signed for a three-match deal, will now fill the vacant overseas signing spot following Michael Bracewell’s unfortunate Achilles injury. The New Zealander’s eight-month absence creates an opportunity for Mir to showcase his skills in the Rapids’ jersey.
Usama Mir has played a crucial role in Worcestershire’s success
Impressing both with bat and ball, the 25-year-old leg-spinner played a crucial role in the team’s early success. His unbeaten 21 runs and figures of 3-21 contributed to the 15-run victory over Northamptonshire Steelbacks. In the following match against Leicestershire Foxes, Mir’s 32 not out and 2-33 played a significant part in securing another win for Worcestershire.
Expressing his delight, Mir stated, “It was my dream to play county cricket, I realized that earlier in the competition, and I am delighted to be available for the remainder of the tournament.” He is eager to support the team’s efforts and help them maintain their strong position in the group stage.
Chairman Paul Pridgeon expressed confidence in Mir’s abilities, emphasizing his impressive performances in the initial matches. Pridgeon also expressed disappointment for Bracewell’s injury and hopes for his swift return to the cricket field.
The Worcestershire Rapids, currently occupying the fourth position in the North Group table with four wins out of seven matches, will resume their T20 action against rivals Birmingham Bears at New Road on Friday, June 16. They will then face Leicestershire Foxes away on Sunday before returning home to host Lancashire Lightning on Tuesday.
