Warriors pull off stunning last-ball win over Royals

The Guyana Amazon Warriors defeated the Barbados Royals by 3 runs in the 2023 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

The Warriors won the toss and opted to bat first. They got off to a slow start, losing Gudakesh Motie inside two overs. However, Saim Ayub and Shai Hope put on a 98-run partnership to get the Warriors back on track. Saim Ayub scored 58 off 35 balls, while Hope made 50 off 40 balls.

The Warriors lost a few wickets in the middle overs, but Hetmyer and Keemo Paul hit a few big shots to take the score to 181-9.

The Royals got off to a good start in their chase, but they lost wickets at regular intervals. Laurie Evans and Alick Athanaze put on a 60-run partnership, but they were both dismissed in quick successions.

Rovman Powell hit 39 off 19 balls to give the Royals a chance, but they needed six runs off the final over. Gudakesh Motie bowled a tight over, conceding just two runs, to seal a dramatic win for the Warriors.

This win has helped the Guyana Amazon Warriors to maintain their unbeaten run to the 2023 CPL. They are currently top of the table, with five wins and eleven points.
