Freedom Fly High as Holland and Ravindra Crush Orcas in One-Sided Contest
Washington Freedom bounced back in style with a commanding 5-wicket win over the Seattle Orcas in the fourth clash of Major League Cricket 2025. Seam-bowling specialist Ian Holland starred with the ball, while Rachin Ravindra and Mitch Owen lit up the powerplay with explosive batting to seal an emphatic chase.
Orcas Crumble After Electric Start
Batting first at the Oakland Coliseum, the Seattle Orcas began in fine fashion with David Warner and Kyle Mayers attacking from the outset. Warner marked his MLC debut with elegant strokes, and the duo raced to 60 inside six overs.
But just as the Orcas looked poised for a big total, Holland’s precision and intelligent changes of pace triggered a collapse. Warner mistimed a lofted shot, and Mayers soon followed, opening the floodgates. From a position of dominance, Seattle lost momentum rapidly.
Holland ran riot through the middle order, finishing with career-best figures of 4/19, dismantling the Orcas’ resistance. He was supported by Ben Edwards (2/24) and Mitch Owen, ensuring Seattle were restricted to a modest 145/9, a well-below-par total considering the venue’s run-friendly surface.
Freedom’s Ruthless Response
There was no hesitation from Washington’s openers. Mitch Owen came out swinging, smashing 25 off 11 balls, while Rachin Ravindra launched a fierce assault of his own, hammering 44 from just 18 deliveries. Their aggressive intent put the Orcas under immediate pressure, racking up 49 in three overs.
Though Seattle’s bowlers struck twice in quick succession to remove Owen and Ravindra, the target never looked threatening. Veteran Glenn Maxwell ensured composure in the chase. His unbeaten 38 off 20 was the finishing touch on a thoroughly professional effort.
Holland Named Player of the Match
With four crucial wickets and tactical brilliance in the middle overs, Ian Holland rightly earned the Player of the Match award. His spell completely flipped the momentum in Washington’s favor and underlined the team’s strength in depth.
What’s Next?
The Seattle Orcas will look to regroup quickly as they face the Texas Super Kings next, while Washington Freedom will carry their momentum into a key fixture against the LA Knight Riders.
