Wayne Madsen and Zak Chappell will feature with Rangpur Riders in the much-talked-about Global Super League beginning this month in Guyana. Mickey Arthur, who recently joined the Bangladesh Premier League side Rangpur Riders as their coach, has added two England Lions to the amalgam named by him.
The Global Super League, which kicks off on November 26, is going to bring the crème de la crème of cricket teams from every part of the world. The inaugural tournament is going to feature five teams, including participating teams from the Caribbean Premier League, Pakistan Super League, T20 Blast, Bangladesh Premier League, and Victoria state team in Australia. Matches will be concluded with a single opponent for each of the teams, and the best two will advance into the final game scheduled to be held on December 7.
The tournament will be played entirely at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, with the nation harking to its ambition of becoming the Number One destination for sporting venues. The Guyanese government has fully endorsed this $1 million prize event, which is to serve as an annual platform for international club cricket, a concept that has been lacking in the sport for all these years.
All spotlight to be on Wayne Madsen and Zak Chappell in GSL
More importantly, the league will conflict with the Abu Dhabi T10, which runs from November 21 to December 2, thus adding more to the cricket-filled action for the month. However, the spotlight will be on Guyana, as Wayne Madsen and Zak Chappell play for the Rangpur Riders against teams like the Hampshire Hawks and Lahore Qalandars.
Hampshire Director of Men’s Cricket Giles White says the league is a fast-emerging global club competition trend underlining Guyana’s sporting aspirations. Fans cannot wait to see Wayne Madsen and Zak Chappell on the field, looking forward to a new international challenge with Rangpur Riders.
