West Indies ODI Squad Revealed for Pakistan Series – Who Has Made the Cut?

In a crucial build-up to the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, the West Indies ODI squad has been announced for the upcoming three-match series against Pakistan, starting August 8 in Trinidad. With automatic qualification at stake, the selection reflects both continuity and a hunger for fresh impact, as the Caribbean side looks to turn the momentum in their favour following a T20I series loss.

Captain Shai Hope will lead a 15-man squad featuring a mix of experienced campaigners and rising talent, notably including the return of Romario Shepherd. The dynamic all-rounder is back in the fold for the first time since the 2023 Bangladesh series, offering much-needed depth in both departments.

In line with Head Coach Daren Sammy’s emphasis on long-term growth and consistency, the West Indies ODI squad continues to invest in young players. Eighteen-year-old Jewel Andrew, who debuted against Sri Lanka and recently featured in England, keeps his spot as the first-choice wicketkeeper-batter.

Also returning is Jediah Blades, the left-arm pacer who first appeared in the Bangladesh series earlier this year. Amir Jangoo, known for his century on debut against the Tigers, retains his place after solid performances against Ireland in May.

Pakistan Challenge Crucial for World Cup Aspirations

According to the coach, this ODI series is more than just a bilateral contest; it is a strategic battleground for crucial ranking points. “Pakistan presents a different test and challenge as we continue our push for automatic qualification for the 2027 World Cup,” Sammy stated.

Currently ranked 10th in the ICC ODI standings, West Indies need consistent wins to close the gap with higher-ranked sides like Pakistan, who are currently placed fourth. The Caribbean team hopes that this blend of youth and experience in their West Indies ODI squad will produce results under pressure.
