The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced that Bengaluru and Chennai will be the venues for the upcoming all-format tour of India by the South Africa Women’s cricket team. This confirmation follows a statement released on Tuesday, May 14, outlining the tour itinerary.
Bengaluru and Chennai to Host South Africa Women’s Cricket Tour of India
The series will commence with a warm-up game against a Board President’s XI side in Bengaluru on May 13, serving as a precursor to the competitive fixtures to come. Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium will then witness three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) on June 16, 19, and 24, setting the stage for an intense battle between the two sides.
Following the conclusion of the ODI series, the tour will shift gears to Chennai’s iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium, where a historic one-off Test match will begin on June 28. This Test encounter holds particular significance as it marks only the third Test match between India and South Africa Women, with the last one being played nearly a decade ago in Mysore.
The tour will culminate with a series of three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) in Chennai on July 5, 7, and 9, providing a thrilling conclusion to the comprehensive tour.
Notably, the T20I series will serve as valuable preparation for both teams ahead of the T20 World Cup scheduled to take place in Bangladesh later this year, underlining the importance of this tour in the context of major upcoming tournaments.
The choice of Bengaluru and Chennai as venues reflects the significance of these cities in Indian cricket, while the tour’s format variety, spanning across different formats over nearly two months, promises a thorough and varied competitive experience for players and fans alike.
This tour not only signifies a significant return to Test cricket for both teams but also underscores a long-term engagement between India and South Africa Women in all formats, further enriching the global cricketing landscape.
