Former Test cricketer Moin Khan has praised Shaheen Afridi’s captaincy skills during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 8 and has backed him as Pakistan’s future captain. Speaking to the media in Karachi, Khan highlighted the need to have a backup of young players for the future and said that Afridi could be the best choice for the next captain.
During PSL 8, Shaheen Afridi led Lahore Qalandars to the championship twice, becoming the first-ever team to defend the title. Khan was impressed with Afridi’s leadership skills and added that his eligibility cannot be ignored.
While discussing Shadab Khan’s captaincy, Khan stated that no player should be judged on a few failures. He supported Shadab and said that it would be unfair to judge his captaincy skills on the basis of just one series where he had a young and inexperienced team with him.
Former Test cricketer Rashid Latif also weighed in on the matter and claimed that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is trying to punish Shadab for speaking the truth. Latif criticized the board for trying to silence Shadab and for making players suffer from mental health issues after leaving cricket.
During the Afghanistan T20I series, Shadab supported senior players who were given rest and emphasized the importance of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan. Pakistan lost the series to Afghanistan 2-1, but Shadab’s captaincy should not be judged solely based on that.
Moin Khan’s endorsement of Shaheen Afridi as Pakistan’s future captain is a testament to Afridi’s impressive leadership skills during the PSL 8. However, Shadab Khan’s captaincy should not be disregarded based on a few failures, and he deserves a fair chance to prove his worth as a captain.
