It was 23-year-old Anshul Kamboj who went down into the cricketing history book when he took all ten wickets in a Ranji Trophy inning for Haryana at the Chaudhary Bansi Lal Stadium in Lahli against Kerala. His spell of 30.1 overs with nine maidens did yield figures of 10 for 49.
This feat places Kamboj in a pantheon of élite as the third player overall to achieve this against Bengal and Rajasthan while playing in the Ranji Trophy. He also is the sixth Indian first-class cricketing player to achieve this after some other legends like Subhash Gupte, Anil Kumble, and Debasis Mohanty.
From Karnal to Cricket Stardom
Born in the sports/cricket histrionic city of Karnal, Kamboj took cricketing inspiration from the open fields. He began to play cricket seriously at the age of 14 and after less than a decade, his effort and prowess have taken him to great heights.
Kamboj has been remarkably consistent over the last year or so. He was the backroom boy for Haryana in the Vijay Hazare Trophy with 17 wickets from 10 games, including a match-winner of 4 for 30 in the semi-final against Tamil Nadu. It was during the Duleep Trophy in September that he showed what looked like a brilliant all-round performance by taking 8 for 69 for India C versus India B and taking big scalps like Sarfaraz Khan and Rinku Singh.
IPL Career
The young pacer signed his first IPL contract with Mumbai Indians in 2023, who played three games in the season. The Mumbai Indians finished last, but Kamboj’s promise made him the most exceptional player on the uncapped list. His performances this year are likely to create much buzz at the auction of IPL 2025 set for November 24 and 25.
International Performances
He has played for India in the Emerging Asia Cup too. There is one particular match where he came out with a match-winning display of 3 for 33 against Pakistan Shaheens. His performance under pressure and his capability across formats are a good augury for Indian cricket.
A Spell to Remember
Ten wickets from a match against Kerala stand as proof of Kamboj’s skill, discipline, and perseverance. His achievement marked the success regarding which fans and cricket experts speak highly of his dedication. BCCI Domestic tweeted a clip of his historic spell, further amplifying his recognition.
