The Karachi Kings are betting big on David Warner’s aggressive leadership to end their playoff drought, naming the explosive Australian opener as captain for PSL 2025. The move marks a dramatic shift for the franchise, which has languished near the bottom of the table since their 2020 title win.
Warner, picked as a Platinum player in January’s draft, steps into the role after Shan Masood’s underwhelming tenure. Known for his fiery on-field presence and tactical acumen, the 37-year-old brings a winning pedigree—most recently leading Sydney Thunder to the BBL final.

Warner’s appointment is a full-circle moment for the polarizing star, once banned from leadership for his role in the 2018 ball-tampering scandal. With the ban lifted last year, he now faces a fresh challenge: resurrecting a struggling PSL giant.
“I’m pumped to lead this squad—it’s packed with match-winners,” Warner said in a statement. Owner Salman Iqbal echoed the optimism, calling Warner “the spark we need,” while assuring Masood remains a “vital part of our plans.”
PSL’s Replacement Roulette
In a late twist, Peshawar Zalmi signed South Africa’s George Linde as a full replacement for Corbin Bosch, who opted for the IPL. Islamabad United, meanwhile, roped in Alex Carey after Rassie van der Dussen withdrew for personal reasons.
With the tournament clashing with the IPL, franchises have reserved picks for stars like Kane Williamson and Litton Das—highlighting the league’s growing pull amid stiff competition.
