The Guyana Amazon Warriors released their squad for the inaugural ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League, which is set to run from November 26 to December 7. The strong team includes South African veterans Imran Tahir and Dwaine Pretorius, among others and English all-around player Moeen Ali. Local talents Romario Shepherd, Shimron Hetmyer, and Keemo Paul will also be in the fray, including the experience of Shai Hope and Roston Chase.

But there is one notable absentee – left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie. Motie, like pacer Shamar Joseph, who will be on duty when West Indies tour Bangladesh at this time, means that Motie and Joseph will miss out on the glamour of the Super League.

Gudakesh Motie not to feature in Global Super League

Motie has been the strike bowler for the Amazon Warriors in earlier seasons and is known as a bowler who comes up with the goods when it matters. His latest exploits for West Indies vs. England had him in prime form. He was especially impressive in the ODI match, where he took 4/41. National responsibilities, however, have had him playing elsewhere for this regional competition.

The Global Super League, to be hosted at the Guyana National Stadium, will be an action-packed event. Five teams will compete for a US$1 million prize pool, and the Warriors will start their campaign against Lahore Qalandars as they seek a strong start to the tournament.

Imran Tahir, Moeen Ali, Shai Hope, Dwaine Pretorius, Hassan Khan, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Kevlon Anderson, Keemo Paul, Mark Deyal, Romario Shepherd, Roston Chase, Shimron Hetmyer, and Shamar Springer make up the full squad.

Fans will miss Motie’s on-field exploits; however, the Warriors are no less of a team. The Global Super League is a new chapter for cricket in Guyana because it promises world-class players and high stakes for some edge-of-the-seat watching by spectators.
