Najam Sethi, who was appointed as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as a successor of Ramiz Raja, is about to complete his stint. It is expected that Zaka Ashraf will be the next candidate to replace Sethi, however, the things are not finalized yet.
The reports are denying any extension for Sethi and the management committee appointed by PMLN after dismissing Raja and his patrons. Now, Zaka, who previously held the PCB chairman role, is likely to be in a meeting with Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Ehsanur Rehman Mazari within a week.
Mazari, in the last meeting, assured that no extension will be given to Najam and co. He also revealed that he has sent Zaka’s name for the next PCB chairman to the party.
“I will only follow the direction of the Pakistan People’s Party top leadership. I have already sent the summary to the prime minister carrying Zaka Ashraf’s name as the future PCB Chairman,” said Mazari.
“The tenure of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee will expire on June 20 and no further extension will be granted. The ministry will not send any extension summary to the PM,” he added.
While Najam was the choice of PMLN as mentioned above, Zaka will be PPP (Pakistan People’s Part) choice. Ex-chairman Ramiz was brought in during Imran Khan’s tenure, the ex prime minister and the chairman of PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf).
Now, it is pertinent to mention that the upcoming week holds the utmost importance for Sethi and co to decide on their fate with the board. Unluckily, there have been no discussions surrounding Raja’s comeback as PCB chairman.
