Mitchell Marsh of Australia is poised to shift down to the number three position in the batting order when Travis Head returns to the squad. The uncertainty looms as to whether opener Travis Head will make his comeback for the upcoming World Cup match against the Netherlands, scheduled for Wednesday.
Head had been sidelined due to a left-hand fracture sustained in South Africa last month, but he has since rejoined the team in New Delhi, where the five-time champions are aiming for their third win in five matches. Marsh, who has displayed impressive form with scores of 121 and 52 in his last two tournament outings, shared his insights on Head’s potential return, stating,
“He looked good, a bit of range-hitting last night. He says the hand feels good. So, I’m sure if he’s fit, he’ll be available for selection in the team.”
Should Head return as David Warner’s opening partner, this would entail Marsh taking on the role of number three batsman. Marsh, no stranger to this position, expressed his comfort with it, saying,
“Very happy to go back down to three. I’ve obviously batted there a lot over the last couple of years, so I feel really comfortable at three. And if and when Heady comes back in, I think that’s the best position for me to play for this team.”
As they approach the match against the Netherlands, Marsh emphasized the need for Australia to refrain from underestimating their opponents, given the Dutch side’s earlier victory against South Africa. He remarked,
“We’ve said it multiple times now in this tournament this year, there’s absolutely no easy games. Tomorrow is no different for us. We respect the Netherlands; they’re playing some good cricket, and that will be a tough challenge.”
