World record registered in men's T20I cricket

On Wednesday, a remarkable feat took place during the opening day of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Asia Regional Qualifier B tournament. Malaysia’s talented seamer, Syazrul Ezat Idrus, achieved a historic milestone by claiming a seven-wicket haul in a Men’s T20I match, setting a new world record.

Facing off against China at Bayuemas Oval, Idrus displayed exceptional skill and precision, leaving the Chinese batting line-up in shambles as he single-handedly secured all seven wickets by bowling them out for a mere 23 runs in the 12th over.

This achievement marks a significant milestone in T20 cricket as, prior to this match, only twelve bowlers had managed to claim six-wicket hauls in Men’s T20I matches, making Idrus’s feat even more exceptional.

Not only did Idrus’s stellar performance lead Malaysia to a resounding eight-wicket victory, but it also provided them with a perfect start to the qualifying tournament, which they are proudly hosting. This regional qualifier holds immense importance as it will determine the team that advances to the Asia Regional Final in Nepal in November. From there, the top two teams from the final will secure their spots in the coveted 20-over showcase in 2024, set to take place in the USA and West Indies.

The significance of Idrus’s achievement cannot be overstated, as it not only brought glory to Malaysia but also etched his name in the annals of cricket history. As the tournament unfolds, all eyes will be on the participating teams, eager to witness more spectacular performances and witness who ultimately earns the coveted spot in the prestigious T20 Cricket World Cup.
