History was made at the IPL mega auction in Jeddah when 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest player in IPL history to be signed by a franchise. Rajasthan Royals secured the prodigious talent for ₹1.10 crore, leaving his father, Sanjiv Suryavanshi, both proud and emotional. Sanjiv, a farmer from Motipur village in Bihar, had sold his farmland to support Vaibhav’s cricketing dreams, a decision that now feels vindicated.

Vaibhav becomes youngest player in IPL, controversies arise

“Woh ab sirf humra bituwa nahi, pura Bihar ka bituwa hai,” said Sanjiv, overwhelmed by the recognition his son has brought to their state. Vaibhav’s journey to becoming the youngest player in IPL began with extraordinary dedication. By age eight, he was already excelling in U-16 trials, with Sanjiv personally ensuring his training despite financial struggles.

Criticism surrounding Vaibhav’s age has surfaced, but Sanjiv stands firm. “He has passed multiple BCCI bone tests. He has already played for India U-19. We are ready for any scrutiny,” he stated confidently. Despite hardships, Sanjiv’s resolve remains unwavering, even as he acknowledges ongoing financial challenges.

Rajasthan Royals’ interest in the youngest player in IPL intensified after trials in Nagpur. Vaibhav impressed batting coach Vikram Rathour by hitting three sixes in a simulated match scenario. “During trials, he smashed eight sixes and four boundaries,” Sanjiv proudly shared.

The Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) has been instrumental in supporting Vaibhav’s journey. President Rakesh Tiwary expressed pride in his achievement. “Vaibhav’s success reflects his talent and determination. His journey from Bihar to the IPL is an inspiration for aspiring cricketers across the country,” Tiwary remarked.

While ₹1.10 crore may be a staggering sum for a 13-year-old, Sanjiv is committed to keeping Vaibhav grounded. “He only wants to play cricket. A few years ago, he loved watching cartoons like Doremon. Now, his focus is solely on the game,” he said.

As the youngest player in IPL, Vaibhav’s story of sacrifice, talent, and perseverance is bound to inspire countless young cricketers.
