England star-batter Jonny Bairstow will miss the third Test match against South Africa and the mega event ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia later this year due to a leg injury.
The right-handed batter has broken his left leg while playing golf on Friday, pushing him to miss the T20 World Cup.
The 32-year-old slipped as he approached a tee box and will see a doctor to determine the severity of his injuries.
Bairstow announced on his Instagram that he will need surgery.
“Unfortunately I am going to be unavailable for all games/tours in the immediate future. The reason being is that I have injured my lower leg in a freak accident and it shall need an operation,” he wrote.
“The injury came when I slipped on the golf course this morning. I am gutted and want to wish everyone for this week at The Oval all the best firstly the boys that are going to Australia for the T20 World Cup. Absolutely gutted! I will be back,” Bairstow added.
Ben Duckett of Nottinghamshire has been included in the lineup for the crucial test at Kia Oval.
