Tomorrow at Sylhet, the second game of the eighth Women’s Asia Cup season will take place between India Women and Sri Lanka Women. The morning game that opens the event will be followed by an afternoon match.
In the opening marquee match of the tournament, India and Sri Lanka will square off after just over two months of previous encounters in this format. On Saturday, both teams will be playing at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Academy Ground, for the first time.
When it comes to playing on neutral grounds, India, which has a somewhat lopsided T20I record against Sri Lanka, has maintained a similar kind of dominance. Having said that, Sri Lanka won the lone T20I between India and Sri Lanka played in Bangladesh during the 2014 Women’s World T20.
Sri Lanka managed to win the last game partly because skipper Chamari Athapaththu scored the game-winning 80* (48) in a 139-run chase at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, despite the fact that India had won their most recent bilateral series against Sri Lanka.
