Rohit Sharma was born on April 30, 1987, in Nagpur, Maharashtra, India. He comes from a family of limited means and developed an interest in cricket at an early age. He was noticed by Dinesh Lad, a well-known cricket coach, who helped him financially to enroll in Swami Vivekanand Global School. Rohit excelled in school cricket tournaments and scored a century.

Rohit Sharma made his first ODI debut in 2007 against Ireland. Later that year, he led the Indian team to victory against South Africa and was named ‘Man of the Match’ for his unbeaten score of 50 out of 40 balls. He was also selected for the 2007-2008 Commonwealth Bank Series and scored two centuries. However, a string of poor performances landed him in the middle-order position of the Indian team, and he was even dropped out of the India tour to Bangladesh in 2009.
Despite his poor form, he made a comeback in 2011 in a match against the West Indies and was awarded ‘Man of the Series.’ In November 2013, he made his first test debut and scored two consecutive centuries. He is now the third Indian batter to achieve this feat, after Mohammad Azharuddin and Sourav Ganguly. In 2014, he broke a string of ODI records alongside Sri Lanka, scoring 264.
