Renowned Pakistani musician Zulfiqar Jabbar Khan, better known as Xulfi, has been selected to produce a new remix of all the Pakistan Super League (PSL) anthems. The new mashup will be featured during the PSL 8 matches to rev up the crowd. The aim of the PSL management is to bring a fresh feel to the fans by incorporating Xulfi’s remix.
In the past, anthems for the PSL have been performed by various musicians such as Ali Zafar, Fawad Khan and Young Desi, Ali Azmat, Asim Azhar, Haroon, Arif Lohar, Aima Baig, Young Stunners, Naseebo Laal, Atif Aslam, and Aima. Amongst them, Ali Zafar, who sang the first three seasons’ anthems, remains a fan favorite.
This year’s PSL anthem will be performed by Asim Azhar, Shae Gill and Faris Shafi, with music composed by Abdullah Siddiqui, who also produced the PSL 7 anthem. Initially, Ali Sethi, son of the current Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, Najam Sethi, was slated to sing the PSL 8 song. However, to avoid any conflict of interest, Najam Sethi revoked the contract involving his son.
PSL 8 will run from February 13th to March 19th across the cities of Karachi, Multan, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. Multan will host the opening ceremony and match for the first time in its history, with the Home team Multan Sultans playing against the defending champions, Lahore Qalandars, on February 13th. Karachi will host its first match on February 14th between the Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi.
The first phase of PSL 8, lasting till February 26th, will see 14 matches hosted in Karachi and Multan, with Lahore hosting its first match on the same day.
