Peshawar Zalmi secured a narrow two-run victory over the Karachi Kings in their first match of the eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The match took place on Tuesday at the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi.
Batting First, Peshawar Pile On the Runs Peshawar Zalmi got off to a strong start, posting a massive 199 runs on the scoreboard. Tom Kohler-Cadmore was the standout performer, scoring 92 runs off 50 balls with seven boundaries and six maximums. Skipper Babar Azam also contributed, scoring 68 runs off 46 balls, including seven fours and a maximum. The two batsmen formed a 139-run partnership for the third wicket.
Karachi Kings’ Fightback: Despite losing several wickets early on, Karachi Kings fought back thanks to Imad Wasim and Shoaib Malik. The two batsmen put on a 131-run partnership, but their efforts were ultimately not enough to secure the win for the home side. Imad remained unbeaten, scoring 80 runs off 47 balls, including seven boundaries and four maximums.
Khurram Shahzad Shines in the Last Over: In the last over, Karachi Kings needed 16 runs to win. Skipper Babar trusted Khurram Shahzad to deliver and the bowler rose to the occasion, defending the total and securing the win for his side. Khurram started with a wide yorker and a near-perfect yorker, giving away just one run each. Despite bowling a no-ball on the third delivery, he held his composure to bowl two more deliveries in good areas and restrict the runs.
Wahab Riaz’s Performance: Wahab Riaz played a key role in Peshawar Zalmi’s victory, taking several wickets. He had the chance to send Shoaib Malik packing but dropped the catch. However, he got the better of Malik later, dismissing him for a half-century. Wahab was unlucky on the last ball of his over, as a no-ball allowed Ben Cutting to stay at the crease, but the left-arm pacer made a strong comeback with a wide yorker on the free-hit delivery.
it was an exciting match between Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings, with both teams putting up a good fight. Tom Kohler-Cadmore’s outstanding knock of 92 runs helped Peshawar post a huge total of 199 runs, while Karachi made a valiant effort to chase it down, with Imad Wasim and Shoaib Malik leading the way. However, it was Khurram Shahzad’s brilliant last over performance that ultimately secured the victory for Peshawar Zalmi. However, last ball six of Wasim was not enough to tape up the chase and KK eventually ended up losing.
