Chennai Super Kings secured a comfortable win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 29th game of the IPL 2023 season. While Chennai skipper MS Dhoni did not get a chance to bat during the run chase, he made his presence felt in the first innings behind the stumps. Dhoni, who is widely considered as one of the best wicketkeepers in cricket history, achieved yet another world record in the match.

The 41-year-old veteran became the keeper with the most catches in T20 cricket by taking his 208th catch in the format. He surpassed Quinton de Kock’s record of 207 catches. Other notable names on the list include Dinesh Karthik and Kamran Akmal. Dhoni achieved the feat by taking a brilliant catch off Maheesh Theekshana’s delivery to dismiss Hyderabad skipper Aiden Markram.

In the first innings, Ravindra Jadeja was instrumental for Chennai, taking three wickets while conceding only 22 runs in his four overs. This helped Chennai restrict Hyderabad to a modest total of 134 runs. Abhishek Sharma was the highest run-scorer for Hyderabad with 34 runs to his name.

During the run chase, Devon Conway played a crucial role for Chennai, scoring an unbeaten 77 runs in 57 deliveries. Ruturaj Gaikwad also contributed with 35 runs in 30 deliveries as Chennai won the game by seven wickets. Mayank Markande was the only Hyderabad bowler to take any wickets, claiming two while conceding 23 runs in four overs, in addition to a run-out by Umran Malik.
