MS Dhoni Clobbers Two Sixes in 20th Over, Extends Record to 59 Maximums in IPL History

The 41-year-old former Indian cricket captain, MS Dhoni, continues to display his destructive form in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 as the skipper of Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

In a recent match against Punjab Kings, Dhoni played a quick-fire knock of 13* off just four balls, helping his team to reach a total of 200 runs after winning the toss and opting to bat first. With this knock, Dhoni showcased his excellent finishing prowess and once again proved his worth as the ‘Captain Cool.’

Dhoni smashed the last two balls of the innings for maximums against Sam Curran, taking his tally of maximums hit in the 20th over in IPL history to 59.

He sits comfortably at the top of the list, way ahead of Kieron Pollard who holds the second spot with 33 sixes to his name. CSK’s skipper has batted with a mind-boggling strike rate of 211.42 in the season so far, accumulating 74 runs in six innings, including two fours and eight gigantic sixes.

Apart from Dhoni’s incredible performance, CSK’s opener Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway also contributed significantly to the team’s total. The duo added 86 runs for the first wicket off just 58 balls, providing a solid foundation for the team.

Shivam Dube walked in at no 3 and added 44 runs off 26 balls, playing a brilliant cameo of 28 off 17 balls. However, it was Conway’s scintillating innings of 92* off 52 balls that stole the show. The Southpaw smashed 16 fours and a six in his innings, taking his team to a challenging target of 200 runs.

With his knock, Conway climbed to the second spot in the IPL 2023 orange cap standings of the ongoing season, with 414 runs to his name in nine innings at an average of 59.14 and a strike rate of 144.25.
